Description

ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (16.85 gms), 134/3 B.C. NGC AU*, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5.
HGC-4, 1602; Thompson-364B var. (letter on amphora). New Style coinage. Timarchos, Nikago-, and Menan-, magistrates. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl, with head facing, standing right on overturned amphora; anchor and star to left, E on amphora, ME below; all within wreath. Extremely well centered and resoundingly attractive, this specimen undoubtedly presents the high level of eye appeal that one would associate with the coveted star designation. Largely argent and frosty white, it remains without tone save for some champagne hints around the devices.

Estimate: $2000.00- $4000.00
