ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (7.96 gms), ca. 280 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style. Overstruck.
HGC-1, 813; Vlasto-666-7; HN Italy-957. Obverse: Crowning youth riding horse right; ΣA to left, APE/ΘΩN in two lines below; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding tripod, riding dolphin left; CAΣ below. Featuring a fairly bold strike, this enchanting specimen also displays a deep cabinet tone that is further accentuated by enchanting highlights. The noted overstriking is easily overlooked, with the undertype being barely visible.
