HGC-1, 980; HN Italy-1378; SNG ANS-66. Obverse: Head of Athena right, wearing crested helmet decorated with Skylla throwing stone; EY to right; Reverse: Herakles standing facing, torso right, strangling the Nemean Lion to right; [AΠOΛ] and club to left, oinochoe below. Struck from supremely elegant dies, this enchanting specimen presents only light, honest handling across the high points, with a charming cabinet nature to the toning and some hints of brilliance remaining in the protected areas. The entirety of the powerful designs fits magnificently upon the flan, making this a tremendous example for the connoisseur.
