1910 Los Angeles International Air Meet Medal. Gold.
36 mm x 49 mm. 6 grams. Beautiful hand-engraved, two- piece gold medal. The central 20 mm disc portrays an early Wright Brothers-style biplane with L.A. CAL. engraved above and 1910 below. The reverse of the disc is engraved, in script lettering, PRESENTED / BY M M A / AT THE FIRST / INTERNATIONAL / MEET. The disc is encircled by a laurel leaf wreath suspended from an ornate hanger inscribed W. J. GREEN. The reverse of the hanger is blank except for the very slight remnants of a ribbon hanger which has been expertly removed, barely detectable to the extreme right and left. An extremely desirable artifact from the world's first international air meet more than a century ago.
