1773 Virginia Halfpenny. Newman 27-J, W-1585. Rarity-2. Period After GEORGIVS, 7 Harp Strings. MS-63 BN (PCGS).
115.2 grains. A crisply struck, lustrous piece with more than a little mint red remaining, mostly on the obverse. Otherwise toned to a nice chocolate-brown and the surfaces possess a fresh, satiny appearance. Thanks to the Cohen hoard, a cache of Mint State Virginia halfpennies turned up by Baltimore numismatist Col. Mendel I. Cohen in the 1870s, collectors today have a relative abundance of high grade examples of this historic type from which to choose.
PCGS# 240. NGC ID: 2ATK.
