SWEDEN. Emund Slemme (the Bad) Silver Medal, ND (1745-60). PCGS SPECIMEN-67.
Hildebrand II, p. 549, 5. Regents of Sweden series. By C. G. Fehrman. Diameter: 34mm. Obverse: Bareheaded and armored bust right, with shield over shoulder; Reverse: Legend and date in six lines. Incredibly radiant and with sharply executed design, this argent specimen dazzles, with the king's hair seemingly billowing and free-flowing before one's eye. Swiss-born Johann Carl Hedlinger (1691-1771) was trained in Paris and later became the court medalist in Stockholm, where he produced numerous historical medals on commission. His portraits are often viewed as some of the most elegant and well-known, and he contributed greatly to his series of "Regentlängd," or "regent lengths,"--a series that provided portraits and brief biographies of the Swedish monarchs from Björn på Håga through Fredrik I.
