Matawan, New Jersey. $5 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 598. The Farmers & Merchants NB. Charter #6440. PMG Very Fine 20.

While half a dozen examples of Plain Back $5s from the Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Matawan, NJ appear on the Census, public auction appearances are quite rare events, with only one recorded offering shown on Track & Price, that occurring in May 2010. This VF-20 specimen displays moderate wear and the paper is toned a light tan shade. A numerical ink stamp and a small patch of discoloration appear on the back. PMG comments "Discoloration, Ink Stamp."
