MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Philip II, 359-336 B.C. AR 1/5 Tetradrachm (2.54 gms), Amphipolis Mint, 348/7-343/2 B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style.

HGC-3.1, 875. Obverse: Head of Artemis facing slightly left, with bow and quiver over shoulder; Reverse: Philip on horse prancing right; below raised foreleg, forepart of Pegasos right. A lovely little beauty issued during the reign of Philip II, the father of Alexander 'the Great.' With an exceptional strike and nice surfaces, this Macedonian product retains beauty over 2,300 years after its issue.
