Description

ITALY. Lucania. Thourioi. AR Distater (Double Nomos) (15.57 gms), ca. 350-300 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style. Flan Flaw.

HGC-1, 1257; HN Italy-1823; Noe-J2-4 (sam obv. die). Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Bull butting right; EYΦA above; in exergue, two fish right. An elegant specimen, this handsomely toned example offers a well centered strike and presents very little in the way of handling. Some shimmering hints of brilliance are evident in the fields when cradled back and forth.
