Description

ITALY. Lucania. Herakleia. AR Diobol (1.42 gms), ca. 432-330 B.C. NGC AU★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style.

HGC-1, 986; van Keuren-71; HN Italy-1380. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Herakles standing right, strangling the Nemean Lion to right. Though a fractional denomination, this incredible specimen offers a well centered strike that has been finely executed and preserved since antiquity, with a charming cabinet tone further augmenting its appeal. Undoubtedly of fine style, and wholly worthy of its star designation.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
