ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (16.99 gms), ca. 5th-4th Centuries B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.

cf. HGC-4, 1597 (for prototype); cf. Kroll-8 (same). Near East or Egyptian contemporary imitation. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Incredibly well struck and alluring, this lightly toned and highly brilliant specimen, minted in the Near East using the popular "Athenian owl" as its prototype, stands as an exceptional example.
