HGC-4, 1597; Kroll-8. Possible Near East or Egyptian contemporary imitation. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Some charming lustrous brilliance highlights the devices on the reverse of this handsome specimen, possibly issued in the Near East on account of the more stylized and lengthy talons on the owl.
