1846 Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 2-D. Repunched Date. MS-64 (NGC).
Pleasing satiny surfaces with good luster and a natural patina of russet and soft gray. Sharply struck and minimally abraded. The 1846 is one of the more frequently encountered circulation strike quarters from the 1840s, the mintage for that year reported as 510,000 pieces. As with all Philadelphia Mint Liberty Seated quarters from that decade, however, this issue is rare and underrated in Mint State. The Repunched Date variety and illustrious pedigree add further appeal for this significant condition rarity.
PCGS# 5409. NGC ID: 23SW.
