Civil War Store Cards
Illinois--Lacon. 1864 Ellsworth & Halsey. Fuld-472A-1ai. Rarity-9. Tin-Plated. Reeded Edge. Mint State.
19 mm. An important offering from this rare merchant, and of further rarity given that Lacon, Illinois is a single merchant town in this series. Even pewter-gray surfaces exhibit a hard satin texture that is pleasingly smooth overall. With razor sharp to full striking detail, specialists should take note of this offering and pursue it with vigor. This general merchandise and ladies' wear firm operated in Lacon from 1862 to 1867, partner Spencer E. Ellsworth leaving in the latter year to go into the newspaper business. Ellsworth & Halsey's tokens are attributed to the Stanton shop in Cincinnati, Ohio.
From the Q. David Bowers Collection. Cardboard 2x2 with attribution notation included.
