52.7 mm. Obv: Bust left, JAMES SADLER FIRST ENGLISH AERONAUT around. Rev: Detailed view of ornate balloon gondola during its 21st ascent, flying from Birmingham to Boston (Lincolnshire) in October 1811, a distance of 112 miles in an hour and 20 minutes. Sadler was later to die in a ballooning accident. Considerable original luster remains.
