STEERE & GRAY / CAST - STEEL on an 1853 Liberty Seated quarter. Brunk S-904, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Fine.
The firm of Elisha B. Steere (1822-1891) & Byron W. Gray operated a hammer mill in Laurens, NY in the 1850s. This stamp is reported as only found on a 2 reales and several large cents under the listing in Brunk, so this 1853 Liberty Seated quarter is a new example and type.
