Description

Counterstamps

J. MAR(SHALL) counterstamped on the obverse and (J. MARS)HALL on a 1794 Liberty Cap large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Good.

Although unlisted in references, this is most likely the stamp of Joel Marshall (1786-1867), a Buxton, ME tool maker. Joel was a captain of the Hollis and Buxton Light Infantry that fought in the war of 1812.
