Description

Counterstamps

H.REES (curved) on an 1814 Classic Head large cent. Brunk R-165, HT-415G. Host coin Good.

Henry Rees was a Philadelphia, PA blacksmith who was working from 1813 to 1839. Starting in 1813 he was located at Randolph's Ct. and is last listed in the city directory of 1839 at Mulberry St. & N. Broad. A popular stamp due to its inclusion in the Hard Times series. There is also a variation with the city location that seems to be scarcer.

From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.

Estimate: $ 175
