D. JUNE on an 1853 Braided Hair large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Very Fine.

David June (1824-1905) was a machinist/manufacturer working in Fremont, OH from the early 1850s to 1900. A detailed biography can be viewed here: http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=2197. It is likely that the example offered in this lot was struck in 1853, the year he started his business, or to commemorate that year.
