Description

Counterstamps

GEO. DELANO. (curved) on an 1824 Matron Head large cent. Brunk D-256, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Good.

Although listed in Brunk, an exact attribution for the issuer in unknown. Brunk lists two possibilities from the 1860 census one in Whiting VT, and one in Stowe, VT. However, further research has found two other more probable George Delanos, both blacksmiths. One is George Delano, a blacksmith in Dorchester, MA, the other is George W. Delano a blacksmith located in Vernon, NY. Both are found on the 1860 census as well.

From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.

Estimate: $ 150
