Counterstamps

W.H. VICKERY (curved) two times / A.G.H / H.H.G two times on the obverse and S.W.N on an 1849 Braided Hair large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Fine.

William H. Vickery (1846-1895) was a gunsmith working in Manchester, NH in the 1880s and 90s. Prior to that he was listed as an Apothecary working in Dover, NH on the 1870 census. The 1890 Manchester city directory lists him as dealing with guns and fishing tackle, located at 1037 Elm Street. It is unknown what the other initials stamped on this coin stand for or if they are related to Vickery.
