Counterstamps

C.V. RAMSDELL on an 1848 Braided Hair large cent. Brunk R-64, Rulau ME-Ba-14. Host coin Fine.

Charles V. Ramsdell was a gunsmith working in Bath, ME from 1855 to 1886. Partnered with J.W. Ramsdell from 1867-1870 as C.V. & J.W. RAMSDELL and then RAMSDELL & NEAL from 1871 to 1886 with John Neal. At some point he also worked in Bangor, ME with Melvin B. Cyphers (see elsewhere in this auction). Brunk lists one 1850 large cent reported, making this a new example.
