CHEADELL in a curved box punch on an 1847 Braided Hair large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Fine. Plus, a circa 1840s coin silver spoon.
John Hatch Cheadell (1806-1875) worked in Auburn, NY as a silversmith from 1827 to 1850. He apprenticed about 1820 to William Nichols in Cooperstown, NY. He then moved to Auburn in 1827. Cheadell was also in a partnership with Philo Allen around 1844 listed as CHEADELL & ALLEN. He used both the curved stamp found on the coin above and a straight punch, as seen on the spoon included in this lot.
