Counterstamps
AB in a box punch three times on a 1790s Spanish Colonial 2 reales. Brunk B-19, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Poor and holed.
This is a very early silversmith punch that has not yet been positively identified; the consignor conjectures that it could be an alternative mark of Abel Buel of New Haven, CT. The script font is somewhat uncommon and was certainly out of fashion by the beginning of the 1800s.
