Counterstamps

H. ANSBACHER on an 1831 Matron Head large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Very Good.

Henry Ansbacher (1819-1888) was born in Teckendorf, Bavaria and worked as a jeweler, clockmaker, and watchmaker in Wilkes-Barre, PA in from 1849-1875. An advertisement in the Aug. 8, 1849 Luzerne Democrat, states that his shop was on the West side of the public square, opposite the Meeting House. He was in partnership with his son Solomon from 1868 to 1875 as H.ANSBACHER & SON. He retired in 1875, and sold his business to D. Davidsburg & Co.
