Description

PHILIPPINES

PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 2 Reales, ND (1835-37). Isabel II. PCGS VG-10 Gold Shield; Countermark: VF Details.

KM-88; Basso-43 (for countermark type); Gil Crown variety-5-4-1. Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. within circle. Issued by decree of 14 December 1835, suppressed 31 March 1837, by Decree of 1 February 1836. On an 1827-ZsOA Mexico Republic 2 Reales. A rather SCARCE denomination from this heavily collected area of Philippines numismatics of which we have more than 40 survivors recorded including the present example. The countermark is boldly applied with good definition of the details with a partial incuse mirror image of an earlier countermark only displaying a couple of pearls from the crown on the eagles right wing on the reverse. The host exhibits fairly significant signs of circulation both pre and post countermarking. This attractive little minor displays attractive mottled patina with areas of richer coloration amongst the devices adding to its pleasing appearance. The minors from this series are always heavily contested for from many collectors that are actively seeking hard to fine pieces from the interesting series of Philippines numismatics.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
