Obverse: FERDINANDVS II D G ROM IM SEM AV G HV ET BO REX, laureate, draped, and armored bust right; Reverse: ARCHID AVS ET CARINTHIAE DVX BVR ETC, crowned and garnished coat-of-arms within Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Quite possibly UNIQUE, this interesting issue initially strikes one's eye as a taler until the incongruent nature of it being gold is taken into account. Utilizing the dies of a St. Veit taler yet a gold planchet at the weight of 10 ducats, this incredibly captivating piece-- even receiving its own citation in Friedberg --is bound to be at the top of the list for many advanced collectors of world gold issues.
