MS62 | Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1842, closed 2 in date, first young filleted head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, laurel wreath surrounding, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, 8.01g (Bentley 42; Marsh 25; S.3852). Toned, only light marks, graded by NGC as MS62, a high grade for this early Victorian Sovereign.

NGC Certification 6318989-016

Calendar year mintage 4,865,375.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."
