Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Trachy (Silver, 21 mm, 1.07 g, 5 h), Philadelphia. Φ-Λ-Α-Φ in the quarters of a large jeweled cross with X over the crossing. Rev. X/ ΔE/CΠO/TH - [O ΠΛ]EO Michael standing facing, wearing crown and loros, holding labarum with his right hand, and globus with a patriarchal cross in his left. Bendall & Donald -. Bendall, PCPC, 58. DOC 45. LHS 97, "Despot" -. Extremely rare. Well-struck and with a clear and attractive reverse. Edge clipped and with a tiny hole next to the globus, otherwise, good very fine.
