Description

ATTICA. Athens. Circa 454-404 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.66 g, 6 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with three olive leaves and palmette, round earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crescent moon; all within incuse square. HGC 4, 1597. Kroll 8. SNG Copenhagen 31. Lightly toned. Graffito on obverse; minor encrustations and attempted pierce mark on reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the Collection of Prof. James M. Collier, acquired in NY, in 1982.
