Description

SICILY. Katane. Circa 450-445 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.15 g, 6 h). Charioteer, wearing long chiton, holding reins with his right hand and kentron with his left, driving a slow biga to right. Rev. KATANION Laureate head of Apollo to right. HGC 2, 566. SNG ANS 1243 ( same dies ). Lightly toned. Reverse die of excellent style. Flan flaws on obverse and die break on reverse; some porosity and minor marks, otherwise, very fine.
