Description

GAUL. Massalia. Circa 150-125 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12 mm, 0.90 g, 5 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing a crested Corinthian helmet and a pendant earring; behind her neck, Α ( with broken bar ). Rev. ΜΑΣΣΑ Eagle with spread wings standing to right; in the lower right field, seven-pointed star. BN 1462-1466. F/Py DOM-56 ( but star on reverse with eight points - in error? ). Rare. Attractive and bold. Minor die fault on the obverse and reverse struck slightly off-center, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the Montecristo Collection, acquired privately in 1990.
