KINGS OF ARMENIA. Tigranes the Younger, 77/6-66 BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 19.5 mm, 4.98 g, 11 h), Tigranokerta(?) or Artagigarta, 66-65 BC. Diademed head of Tigranes the Younger to right, wearing five-pointed Armenian tiara decorated with a comet. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ TIΓPANOY ΔHMO Nike advancing to left, holding wreath with her extender right hand. ACV -. CAA -. Kovacs 155 ( this obverse die ). Pleasant example with attractive olive green patina and a bold portrait. Usual die fault on reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of Yerets’ Kariatin, Switzerland.
This example is very close stylistically to Kovacs 143; what distinguishes between Kovacs 143 and 155 is the tiara: the flaps are much wider apart on 155.
