KINGS OF MACEDON. Perseus, 179-168 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 17.18 g, 11 h), Pella or Amphipolis, 179-173. Diademed and bearded head of Perseus to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙ - ΛΕΩΣ / ΠΕΡ - ΣΕΩΣ Eagle with spread wings standing to right on thunderbolt; above, monogram of ΖΩ (= Zoilos); in the field to right, monogram of ΜΕ; and between the eagle's legs, monogram of ΕΥ; all within an oak wreath with, below, a plow to right. Mamroth, Perseus, 4. De Luca 58 (O19/R51). Very well-centered, nicely toned and with an elegant portrait. Extremely fine.
