MEROVINGIANS, Somme. Amiens. Circa 620-640. Triens (Gold, 12 mm, 1.34 g, 9 h), Medoaldus, moneyer. AMBIANIS Diademed and draped bust to right; in front, cross. Rev. MEDOALDO M Cross ancrée on base of two steps. Apparently unique variant, except for its auction appearance, but cf. Belfort 139 var. = Depeyrot p.69, 9 var. ( cross on obverse; base of cross on reverse ). Somewhat irregular flan, otherwise, extremely fine.
