Description

MACEDON. Thessalonica. After 148 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.94 g, 12 h). Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΘE-Σ/Σ-AΛ-O/NIKHΣ Two goats rearing at each other. BMC 8. HGC 3, 726. SNG ANS 775. SNG Copenhagen 350. Touratsoglou, Macedonia, 2. A very rare coin, often confused with the common issue of Amphipolis that has the same reverse type. One of the best examples known, with a glossy dark patina. Good very fine.
