ATTICA. Athens. Circa 510-500/490 BC. Obol (Silver, 8 mm, 0.53 g, 6 h). Helmeted head of Athena to right, her hair shown in a thick roll over her brow and down past her ear. Rev. Α⊙E Owl standing to right, head facing the viewer; to left, olive sprig; all within incuse square. BMFA 1054. HGC 4, 1659 ( but misdated ). Cf. Svoronos, Trésor, pl. 2, 48. With this unusual head of Athena, a very rare variety. Toned and quite attractive. Reverse struck from a worn die; some uncleaned areas, otherwise, good very fine.
