LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 420/15-390 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12 mm, 1.04 g, 12 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing a crested Attic helmet adorned with Skylla on the bowl. Rev. ⸠HPAKΛΗΙ-ΩΝ Herakles standing, facing, his torso turned to the right, lifting and strangling the Nemean lion, which he grasps in a choke hold; in the field to left, club. HN III 1380 ( but the date given there, c. 433-330 BC, makes no sense ). Van Keuren 72 var. ( without club, but perhaps simply off the flan ). Rare, with the obverse head to left. With a particularly sharply struck reverse. Obverse struck from a slightly worn and rusty die, and with light deposits, otherwise, nearly extremely fine/extremely fine.
