Description

IONIA. Herakleia ad Latmon. Circa 150-142 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.01 g, 12 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing helmet, adorned with Pegasus flying to right, the foreparts of five horses over the visor, and tendrils at the back, and a necklace of pearls. Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΩΤΩΝ Club shown horizontally to right; below, Nike standing left between two monograms; all within oak wreath. BMC 1. SNG von Aulock 1978. With a head of Athena of very fine and elegant style. Some very slight flatness and possible traces of overstriking, otherwise, extremely fine.
