Description

SICILY. Kamarina. Circa 425-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 16.43 g, 7 h). Athena, wearing crested Attic helmet and long chiton, holding kentron in her right hand and the reins in both, driving galloping quadric to right; above, Nike flying to left, preparing to crown Athena with a wreath held in both hands; in the exergue, two prize amphorai dividing the inscription KAM-A-PINA. Rev. ΑΜΑΡΙΝΑΙΟΝ Head of youthful Herakles to left, wearing a lion's skin headdress tied below his chin; in the field to left, bow. Buceti 18. Gillet 368 = Rizzo pl. V, 15, Jameson 525a, Weber 1246 ( all same dies ). Westermark & Jenkins 152 (O10/R19). Toned, nicely centered and well-struck. Good very fine.
