Satraps of Caria. Hidrieus, circa 351/0-344/3 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 15.31 g, 12 h), Halikarnassos. Head of Apollo facing, turned slightly to right; at neck, edge of his cloak held together by circular brooch. Rev. ΙΔΡΙΕΩΣ Zeus Labraundos standing right, holding long scepter in his left hand and double-ax in his right; below right, between Zeus' ankle and the scepter, Ε. BMC 1. SNG Copenhagen Suppl. 340. SNG Kayhan 880. SNG von Aulock 8046. A splendid, well struck and very attractive example; toned and without the usual traces of corrosion or over-cleaning. Minor stain on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine. From the Cinquantenaire Collection, Switzerland, and once in a Levantine private collection, bought privately from Bank Leu in the early 1980s.
