Satraps of Caria. Maussolos, circa 377/6-353/2 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 15.06 g), Halikarnassos, after c. 367. Laureate head of Apollo, three-quarters facing, turned slightly to the right. Rev. ΜΑΥΣΣΩΛΛ[Ο] Zeus Labraundos standing right, holding labrys (double-axe) in his right hand and long scepter in his left; behind, below the elbow of Zeus, Π; below right, between the scepter and Zeus's foot, remains of the letter Μ. Hurter, Pixodaros, pl. 33, 37. Rare with just a single visible control letter on the reverse; beautifully toned and well-struck on excellent metal. Extremely fine.
