Description

Ionia. Erythrai. Circa 550-500 BC. Hemistater (Gold, 13 mm, 7.00 g). Floral device with radially arranged flowers; between them, buds; the whole forming a circular boss in high relief. Rev. Irregular incuse square. BMC Ionia, p. 2, 2 (uncertain mint). Jameson 2292. Traité I, pl. 3, 5. Toned, most unusual and very attractive. Extremely fine. From the Ravenel Collection, USA, and from that of John Work Garrett and the Johns Hopkins University, Bank Leu and Numismatic Fine Arts, 16 October 1984, 263, acquired from the archaeologist and coin collector D. M. Robinson, 3 July 1923.
