Mysia. Lampsakos. Mid 4th century BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.16 g, 6 h), Pseudo-Rhodian type, previously attributed to Megiste, Memnon of Rhodes. Youthful head of Helios to left, on radiate solar disk. Rev. M - E Rose with buds to either side. Ashton, Memnon 26. SNG Copenhagen 913 (Rhodes). SNG von Aulock 2769 (Megiste). Rare. Nicely toned, with a noble head of Helios and types struck in high relief. Some very minor marks, otherwise, good very fine. From the Cinquantenaire Collection, Switzerland, once in the stock of Tradart and ex Monnaies et Médailles 66, 22 October 1984, 268. This series has been attributed to various mints such as Rhodes, Megiste and others. By taking into account recent hoard evidence, Ashton proposed a reattribution of the issue to a mint in the Troad, almost certainly Lampsakos.
