Description

Kings of Macedon. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.26 g, 9 h), Pella, circa 325-315. Head of youthful Herakles in lion's skin headdress to right. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated to left on throne with his feet on a footstool, holding eagle with closed wings on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, rose with bee alighting right atop its petals. Price 206. SNG Berry 204. SNG Copenhagen 209. Sharply struck and very attractive. Reverse very slightly double struck, otherwise, good extremely fine. From a European collection, formed before 2005.
