Description

Julius Caesar, April 44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.83 g, 12 h), C. Cossutius Maridianus AAAFF, Rome. CAESAR / PARENS PATRIAE Wreathed and veiled head of Caesar to right; before, lituus , behind, apex . Rev. C.COSSVTIVS and MARIDIANVS arranged in the form of a cross with A A A FF in the angles. Alföldi XVII, 30 ( this coin ). Babelon (Julia) 43, (Cossutia) 2. Crawford 480/19. CRI 112. Sydenham 1069. Toned, clear and attractive. Very fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, bought from Bank Leu, Zürich, prior to 1975, but previously in the stock of Münzen und Medaillen in Basel.
