KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.02 g, 11 h), struck posthumously under Demetrios I Poliorketes, Miletos, circa 294/5. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding eagle in his right hand and scepter in his left; to left, monogram of ΠΡΑΤΟΥ; below throne, labrys. ADM I Series XIII. Newell 48 (but these dies unrecorded). Price 2147. Bold and well-centered on a tight flan; fine style. About extremely fine.
The same control symbols, were used for an extremely rare contemporary Nike/Poseidon tetradrachm, which was struck in Demetrios Poliorketes' name in Miletos.
