Eastern Mediterranean/Aegean Area. Circa 5th-6th century. Weight of 1-libra (Brass, once inlaid with silver, 65x64x10 mm, 315.00 g), a thick, octagonal commercial weight with plain edges (as MAH C1). Within an inner herringbone pattern border with a pellet in a circle at 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°, and an outer wreath of leaves and berries, a Latin cross on a simple base between the letters ?? Α. Rev. Plain. Apparently unpublished, but cf. Nomos 13, 2016, 324 for the shape and denomination. Uncleaned and with a dark green and black patina, with encrustations over the silver inlays. Minor marks and scrapes. Good very fine.
