Description

*Military General Service, 1793-1814, single clasp, Corunna (George Bolton, Lieut 14th Foot); small piercing to edge at 6 o’clock, now plugged, with light mount marks also to edge, carriage re-fitted, otherwise good fine. Major George Bolton joined the 14th (Bedfordshire) Foot as a Lieutenant on 26 May 1807, and served with this regiment in Spain between October 1808 and January 1809, taking part in the retreat to Corunna. Later redesignated as the 14th (Buckinghamshire) Foot in 1809, he also served in the Walcheren campaign of the same year. While he does not appear to have served at Waterloo, for reasons unknown, George Bolton’s company of the 3rd/14th Foot did take part in the fighting. He is recorded as having reached the rank of Major (on half pay) with the 30th Foot.
