Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios, 323-317 BC. Tetradrachm (Subaeratus, 26 mm, 14.85 g, 12 h), a contemporary plated imitation, after circa 323-320. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩ[Σ] - [ΦΙ]ΛΙΠΠOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, M; below throne, monogram. Cf. Price P186 (for prototype). An excellent contemporary plated imitation. Very fine.
